Background:

Public health communication interventions are only effective if they reach their intended audiences, highlighting the importance of dissemination and evaluation. Moving from inclusive product development to delivery and measuring impact requires transforming inputs from formative research and product creation into tactical action.

Program background:

Bridging the gap between concept and reality means intentionally customizing dissemination strategies to ensure accessibility, reach, and resonance. Whether that is targeted distribution (e.g., geotargeting, selective distribution) or a diverse media mix that encompasses traditional and grassroots marketing, digital and social media, or targeted earned and paid tactics, you can infuse health equity principles and practices into dissemination.

Additionally, health equity-oriented evaluations help you understand what strategies work, for whom, and under what conditions. Relevant evaluation prioritizes communication interventions, optimizes dissemination, and improves overall product performance. When designing and planning evaluation efforts be sure to:

  • Include Health Equity Indicators in Performance Monitoring - Performance monitoring can track health equity insights, providing an opportunity to monitor progress and identify needed corrections in specific communities.
  • Use Culturally Appropriate Tools - Using culturally appropriate tools and methodologies to gather data is key for performance and dissemination measures.
  • Disseminate the Results of Equity-Oriented Evaluations - Increase awareness and share findings and reports of what works and what may be a promising practice to reach key audiences.
