PGP’s Monitoring Lab consists of multiple media monitoring programs that collect and sort public media data from a wide variety of sources. The Lab maintains data dashboards that monitor health-related conversations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Dashboards are designed like a disease surveillance system, where analysts monitor media to understand knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to health topics in real-time and over time. Through the dashboards, users are able to better understand how the public perceives a health topic, the source and spread of facts and misinformation, differences in discourse, and critical shifts in discussion. These data can help organizations ensure they run effective social and behavior change communications and risk communication and community engagement. PGP has trained numerous UNICEF Country Offices and state and local health departments within the United States on how to stand up “Infodemic Management” teams. This session will walk participants through how to use these critically important tools to fight misinformation, and share tangible examples of how these data have been used to activate trusted messengers, such as health care providers and community based organizations, to share vetted health information in a manner that will make it stick.
